History of the World
Students explore global history from 1300 to the present through lectures, readings, primary sources and collaborative case studies.
Global History Lab
Global History Lab is a two-course global learning programme. Students begin with History of the World since 1300, then progress to Qualitative Research Methods, where they develop original research projects using oral history, source analysis and collaborative inquiry.
Through partner universities, NGOs and learning communities, GHL connects students across borders and supports them to become knowledge producers for a wider world.
What GHL does
GHL combines two connected courses with independent research and public-facing outputs, helping students move from studying global history to producing new historical knowledge.
Students explore global history from 1300 to the present through lectures, readings, primary sources and collaborative case studies.
Learners develop skills in oral history, research ethics, interviews, visual sources, archives and project design.
Students can share final projects through Global History Dialogues, extending their research beyond the classroom.
2024/25 Impact
In 2024/25, Global History Lab connected students across universities, NGOs, foundations and refugee education programmes, supporting hundreds of learners through a challenging year of collaborative global history education.
How the lab works
GHL brings students through a connected sequence of study, methods training, independent research and public dialogue.
Students explore global history from 1300 to the present through lectures, readings and collaborative case studies.
Learners develop research, ethics, oral history, source analysis and project design skills.
Students apply their methods to original projects rooted in local experience and global historical questions.
Final projects can be shared publicly, creating new conversations across communities, borders and institutions.
Narrative Observatories
Narrative Observatories bring together researchers from across the world to investigate how stories shape identity, belonging, exclusion and power in real time.
Observers track and analyse narratives of emergency, integration, polarisation and more, capturing voices as events unfold while situating them within wider global patterns.
